30 miles. 10,000 feet of vert. Ten 4000-footers. One day.

We're going to run the Pemi Loop.

We will likely hike the steeper sections, and trail run the flats and downhills.

We'll drive up the night before, stay in a campground or Airbnb, run the Pemi Loop, and drive back.

Prerequisites

Basically, you need to have experience with big trail runs, elevation, and tough terrain (though it's okay if this will be your hardest trail run!). As a rough guideline, you should:

  • Have done a 25 mile run in the last 12 months
  • Have done a 18 mile trail run with at least 6000 ft of elevation gain in White Mountains terrain (or equivalent) in the last 6 months
  • Have comfort navigating and being self-sufficient in the backcountry (we aren't planning to split up, but this is important for safety)

If you don’t satisfy the prereqs, you’re welcome to sign up anyways (e.g., if you're on the varsity cross country team and run 80 miles per week but haven't done big trail runs before, you'd probably be fine on this run), but please be detailed when filling out the sign-up form, so we can make sure that this is the right trip for you.

Sign-up process

Sign up for the trip by entering the lottery below and also filling out this Google form. The trip lottery will run on Friday, August 18th.

We will have a pre-trip run (followed by a meeting) on Tuesday, August 22nd (piggy-backing off this MITOC trip), where we'll run a Skyline loop together at the Fells (7 mi and 1500 ft of vert).

Details

Rain date. If the weather is bad, we'll postpone to Sunday. If the weather the whole weekend is bad, we'll postpone to a future weekend.

Cost. Expect transportation cost to be around $20-30 (we'll use Bjorn's calculator), and some cost for the Airbnb or campsite.
