Overview

The Reservoir Trail in the Middlesex Fells is a moderate trail run at 6 miles and about 700 feet of vertical gain. We will meet at the South Dam Road Parking Lot at 6:15 pm, and plan to start running 6:25 pm.

These are for anyone who is new to trail running, is a frequent trail runner and would like to meet other trail runners, or is training for a race and looking to tack on more miles during the week. Please sign up when you are coming so we know whether to expect you!

We'll have two options for this run! For those that are new to trail running, know that trail running tends to be significantly slower than road running because of the hills and technical footing. Please note below which option you're interested in. Contact the leaders if you are unsure which option (or this trip overall) is a good fit for you!

Long run

We'll complete a full lap around the Reservoir Trail. The pace will be around 11:00/mile. You can expect this to feel like running 9:00-9:30/mile pace on flat road.

Short run

This run will be 3-4 miles long with 300-400 feet of elevation gain at a 12:00-13:00/mile pace. You can expect this to feel like running 10:00-11:00/mile pace on flat road.

Transportation

If you are willing to drive other people in either direction, feel free to add yourself to the rideshare. Note that you are responsible for making your way to the meeting point in the fells. There is also public transportation that takes you near the fells or you could bike/run!

Gear

  • Cell phone (required if you haven't been to the Fells before); we try our best to stick together when running, but this is just in case you get lost
  • Headlamp (optional - we should finish way before dark but potentially useful)

New folks

Please take a look at this map of the Fells before coming - the Reservoir Loop is the orange trail (and while running, the trail is identified by orange blazes on trees)

The Fells can be pretty confusing to navigate, so if you are new PLEASE bring a phone
