Purpose

MITOC is always looking for more leaders to help with circuses and the rock program. We're hosting both an info session and this open cabin to help potential new rock leaders understand how to become a leader and climb with existing leaders to get recommendations.

Trip Date

Saturday, April 27 to Sunday, April 28 You can plan to arrive to Camelot Friday night or drive up with your car directly to climb Saturday morning. Most people will probably leave after climbing on Sunday.

Location

Camelot cabin is a 15-min drive from sport climbing at Rumney. There are other nearby trad crags (e.g. less than an hour to Franconia Notch).

Pre-trip planning

We will do our best to pair existing leaders with potential new leaders for Saturday climbs after trip signups close, if desired. We will send out a rideshare sheet. We can plan Sunday groups on Saturday night at Camelot.

Self-sufficiency

For the purposes of this Open Cabin weekend, a self-sufficient outdoor climber knows how to safely lead climb and belay, rappel, build appropriate and safe anchors, evaluate objective and subjective risk factors, and maintain group safety. These are skills we look for in all rock leaders. Please bring your own gear, including a helmet (mandatory) - no guarantees we will have club gear for you to use.

Meals:

There will be a group dinner/dessert together in the cabin on Saturday night and breakfast in the cabin on Sunday morning. MITOC relies on volunteer power, so everyone will be responsible to either help cook or clean. If you’re excited to be a principal cook, and/or grocery shop, please email the leaders. Lunch both days is on your own (bring hiking snacks).

Cost:

Covered by the rock program - this event is an investment in future leaders.
