Prerequisites
You should be capable of safely climbing with a peer group or find a mentor in advance. Ability to safely lead belay is required of everyone who’s not an explicit mentee (and is strongly encouraged for mentees as well). If you are a mentee, please establi

Purpose: Female-identifying climbers are invited to come together for an intimate cabin weekend. We hope to foster positivity and a space to just be yourself among a group of active, kind, and interesting women who share a passion for climbing. Expect to laugh, meet new climbing friends, and share your dreams and experiences with others, all in a safe and supportive environment. Come to learn, connect, and share any topics you want to contribute, whether it’s training techniques for female athletes, tips for buying one’s first outdoor gear, or advice for feeling confident in yourself and your climbing.

Trip date: Sat-Sun, May 4th-5th, 2019. You can plan to arrive to Camelot Friday night or drive up with your car directly to climb Saturday morning. Most people will probably leave after climbing on Sunday.

Location: MITOC’s Camelot cabin is a 15-min drive from sport climbing at Rumney. There are other nearby crags (e.g. less than an hour to Franconia Notch). Further location logistics will be provided in pre-trip email after signups close.

Climbing Groups: You should be able to independently find and evaluate climbing partners. All climbing groups will be self-organized (there will not be any central planning). If you need a mentor to take you climbing, you must make your own arrangements with a mentor before you can sign up.

There are 3 ways that you are allowed to sign up for this trip: - Be a self-sufficient outdoor climber (see description below). - Be the mentee of a self-sufficient outdoor climber. - Be a CONFIRMED participant in the Gym-to-Crag official MITOC trip after its lottery runs (enter the lottery for this trip on the trips page).

Mentor / Mentee Spreadsheet - You may also use the spreadsheet if you are a mentor offering mentorship, or a mentee in search of a mentor. It is the mentees responsibility to reach out to the mentor. Mentee's can't put themselves into a mentor group until they've been confirmed by the mentor.

Self-Sufficient Outdoor Climbers: For the purposes of this Open Cabin weekend, a self-sufficient outdoor climber knows how to safely lead belay and lead climb. They must either have a rope and draws or contact in advance a peer group of self-sufficient outdoor climbers coming to this event who do have a rope and draws. Self-sufficient outdoor climbers can also try to find partners once they arrive at the cabin, but there’s a risk of being left behind.

Mentors: If you’re a self-sufficient climber, you can optionally act as a mentor to non-self-sufficient climbers. You can bring any number of mentees you can safely climb with and be responsible for. You are responsible for independently evaluating your ability to safely climb with them. We strongly suggest you take mentees who can lead belay.

How to be a Mentee: If you’re not a self-sufficient outdoor climber yet, we want to help you get to that point and have fun climbing outdoors! You can contact your female MITOC climbing friends to ask them to mentor you, or reach out to willing mentors who have signed up below. Please keep checking back as mentors sign up below, and email people as you see they could be a good match for your interests.

Gym-to-Crag Official MITOC Trip: A few of the MITOC climbing leaders are running an official MITOC trip on Saturday May 4th centered around outdoor lead climbing technique, aimed at participants who are 5.9+ gym climbers (see trip description here). Because of leader/participant safety ratios required, we unfortunately cannot accommodate a large amount of people on this trip. After the trip lottery runs, those participants accepted to the Gym-to-Crag Trip will be allowed to sign up for the Open Cabin weekend. They can indicate “Mentee via Gym-to-Crag Trip” under question 1b in the Signup Notes below.

Shared Meals: There will be a group dinner/dessert together in the cabin on Saturday night and breakfast in the cabin on Sunday morning. MITOC relies on volunteer power, so everyone will be responsible to either help cook, or help clean - hopefully a 50/50 ratio. If you’re excited to be a principal cook, and/or bring groceries, please email the leaders. Lunch both days is on your own (bring hiking snacks).

Cost: The cost of this trip is $20 and includes group dinner Saturday night and group breakfast Sunday morning, Camelot cabin fee, and swag. The link to pay MITOC online is here - please pay just once under Trip and Event Fees - Women’s Climbing Open Cabin. Please pay after sign-ups are confirmed. Passengers also typically pay their drivers ~$20 for the trip up and back; drivers will ask you to pay them directly.

Deadline: Sign-up on this trip page by 7pm on Tuesday April 30th. If you do not sign up by Tuesday April 30th, we cannot guarantee there will be food for you! You’ll receive a logistics email on Wednesday May 1st confirming your spot on this trip and prompting you to pay.

Rides: A rideshare spreadsheet will be posted on the website here after signups close (Tue April 30th) to help with carpooling. Please make sure your MITOC profile car information is accurate, as we’ll use it to make sure that there are enough rides. You should arrange your climbing group+car for Saturday in advance.

Notes

Instructions: You must answer 1a OR 1b, and also 2, 3, 4.

(1a) You are self-sufficient. Please state whether you’d be open to mentoring someone (state what topic: top rope, easy sport, bouldering, etc.) Know that potential mentees will look at this answer and be in contact with you.

(1b) You are not self-sufficient yet. You need a mentor in order to sign up. State who your mentor is. They must confirm with you that they can mentor you, and they must also sign up for this trip. (PLEASE READ: You cannot just write "need a mentor." You need to ALREADY have found a mentor in order to sign up. Ignore other people's signups that say "need a mentor" - we are removing those people. Ignore other people's signups that say "Gym-to-Crag" - the lottery for that trip hasn't run yet, so you CANNOT sign up as "Gym-to-Crag participant" yet.)

(2) Do you have any dietary restrictions?

(3) Would you rather cook or clean for dinner Saturday night?

(4) What are your favorite cabin/camping foods/recipes?
