Last weekend, we went to the Granite Backcountry Alliance's newly cleared Maple Villa Glades. This weekend, we're going back for part two.... with SNOW. The forecast looks positive for inches upon inches of snow on Sunday, so we'll be heading up to Bartlett mountain in Intervale, NH for some epic tree skiing!

Important Info:

For those that are new to backcountry skiing you may not realize the following:

  • You will not get to “warm up on a green” and may have to start off on black-level (steeper) terrain.
  • Conditions are unknown and objective hazards (exposed rocks, bushes, etc.) may make runs narrower or more difficult than slope indicates. For instance, you may have to navigate a slope that has exposed rocks because of low snow coverage.
  • Skinning up is equal in difficulty to a strenuous hike (i.e. a continuously steep uphill climb) with the extra weight of skis on your feet, so good fitness is important.

Trail Info:

This is an advanced ski trip through a gladed tree area. The skin track to the top of the glades is about 3 miles long with 1700" of elevation gain. There are 7 trails down the mountain with varying difficulties. We have the option to lap the upper sections of the glade before making our way down to the parking lot. A full run of the ski runs is around 1.5 miles.
