Let's go backcountry skiing!!! We'll explore the trails originally cut by the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) below treeline on the stunning Mount Washington.
.
When & Where
Trailhead: Pinkham Notch, NH (AMC Pinkham Notch Visitor Center)
When: Saturday Jan 12th at 9:00 AM
.
Required Skills:
- Advanced downhill skier: you must be experienced in skiing or snowboarding ungroomed, narrow, icey, trails. The skiing is likely to be difficult and you must feel comfortable with all of the above.
- Physical fitness: skinning uphill is like hiking but more exhausting as you have skis attached to your feet! This isn't an especially arduous climb but you must be in physical condition to hike all day
.
Ski Risk Warning
FYI: For those that are new to backcountry skiing & riding you may not realize the following:
You will not get to “warm up on an easier run.” When we start skiing it will be full difficulty.
Trail conditions are not maintained and objective hazards (ex: ice patches, moguls, creeks, trees, hidden & exposed rocks) will exist.
