Join Kiwi and the Davids for a hike through the Fells! Just 6 miles from MIT, the Fells have surprisingly steep trails and some beautiful city views. This half-day trip is a great way to test out your gear and get your systems dialed in for longer and colder hikes during the remainder of Winter School.
We will arrive at the Fells at 9am and plan to finish the hike by 2pm at the latest. The Fells are accessible by public transit and ride hailing services. We will also arrange a MITOC ride share for those who are so inclined.
We will bring a few winter stoves so everyone can get some practice lighting them. Feel free to bring your favorite winter snacks for sharing (or even winter meals for cooking on the stoves, if you're feeling bold).
You will not need any special footwear (microspikes, snowshoes, etc) for this trip. Trekking poles are not necessary, but may be used if you prefer. For the most part you will just need a backpack, food and water, and appropriate clothing and insulation for being outside in the cold.
