How It Works

This will work just like real speed dating without the rejection and self-loathing! Climbers will go around the room and meet other folks to identify mentors/mentees who are a good match for what they hope to learn. Folks will have the chance to chat with potential mentor/mentees interested in working on the skills they are hoping to learn/teach. After everyone meets one another everyone will let the organizers know who they'd like to climb with and we will put folks in touch with one another.

Note: It is possible that there may be too many folks looking for a specific type of mentor than there are mentors available. For example, there may only be 5 folks looking to mentor someone in trad climbing but 20 people looking to learn trad climbing. We will do our absolute best to make sure everyone has at least one match.

Cost

Nothing!

What to bring

Yourself, your wit, and excitement for climbing.

Who can be a Mentor?

Anyone can be a mentor (even a mentee)! There is no application process for a mentor. Do you think you have useful climbing knowledge to impart on a less experiences climber? Do you want to help someone else grow? Great! You're a climbing mentor!

Note You do not have to be a climbing leader to be a mentor. The mentor/mentee relationship is informal.

Who can be a Mentee?

Anyone can be a mentee (even a mentor)! No climber can say that they have it all figured out. We all have skills we can learn and higher places to reach. If you have a specific goal you'd like to achieve in climbing such as learning how to lead climb, exploring bouldering, or learning how to build safe anchors then you'd make a great mentee!

Rough Mentor/Mentee Categories

The following list is a set of things folks might want to work in in their mentor/mentee relationship. This isn't exhaustive but will help give us an idea of how to pair folks up.

  1. Bouldering
  2. Gym Top-Roping
  3. Gym Leading
  4. Outdoor Top-Roping and Leading (Sport)
  5. Single-Pitch Trad Leading
  6. Multi-Pitch Trad Following
  7. Multi-Pitch Trad Leading
