Details

Evan's Notch is a little spot on the border of Maine. It is not often frequented and while despite not being super remote feels isolated in the winter. The campsite we will head for sites against a small pond that is often frozen in the winter. Surrounding the area are snow mobile trail that make excellent approach trails to some ice climbs!

Goals

Other than having fun, the goal of this trip is to learn a bit more about self-sufficiency outside. We will have everything we need to stay warm, happy, and entertained. The trick is to use the gear and people we bring with us to make that happen.

The Plan

We will drive up Fri night to Evan's notch and walk a short 1 mile flat trail to a camp ground and set up tents for the evening. Sat will be spent skating, skiing, ice climbing, and light hiking. The evening will involve building snow shelters (pray for snow) and feasting! Sun we will tear down camp and leave most of our gear at the cars before hiking/skiing/snowshoeing 3 miles to a remote ice crag.

Options

Ideally, everyone can go up Fri night so we can start Sat in the Notch and have more time for activities. If that is not going to work we can either stay at Intervale Fri night or head up REALLY early Sat. Neither of these options are ideal because they cut into activity time on Sat.

Ice Skating is possible on the pond provided it is well-frozen. If you are interested feel free to bring skates.

Cross country skiing is a great way to get around in the area. Feel free to bring the gear if you have it. BC skis are HIGHLY recommended. Otherwise, show shoes are required.
