MITOC WS Leaders Ian and Fiona (aka Sherlock Holmes) need your help as we embark on an epic adventure to investigate the case of the missing brownies on the summit of Mt. Moriah-rty. Unconfirmed reports say that Sherlock's nemesis, Professor Moriarty, may have absconded with the brownies, and we need your help to retrieve them!
Situated North East of Pinkham Notch, Mount Moriah, while not much over 4000 feet, has an open summit with wonderful views of the Presidentials. For this trip we’ll be doing a point-to-point hike up the Carter-Moriah Trail from Bangor Street in Gorham, NH and down the Stony Brook Trail.
Even though Moriah is just over the 4000 foot mark, you still climb about 3550 in elevation, which makes it a strenuous hike and more suitable to folks with some previous hiking experience.
As always, we will practice the wonderful Winter School basics: layering and delayering, efficient breaks, footing and traction (whether bare boots or microspikes), and the Happiness Triangle: Eat-Drink-Pee! We'll experience the wonderful MITOC culture of communication and planning, supporting each other, and hiking as a team. And, most importantly, eating those delicious summit brownies.
Total distance: 10 miles
Elevation gain: 3550 feet
Mt. Moriah elevation: 4049 feet
(Ideally, we'd like to stay at Intervale cabin Saturday night. If that doesn't work out, we'll plan to leave Boston VERY early on Sunday morning ~4am)
