- Good physical condition, have been on a Winter School trip in the Whites before. Experience with cramp-ons is a plus.
Are you ready to try out your new winter hiking skills on an above treeline hike?! Join John and Will for a winter ascent up Mt. Jefferson, New Hampshire's third highest peak at 5712 feet.
We'll climb the 5-mile Castle Trail (10 miles roundtrip) to the summit, gaining over 4200 feet of elevation along the way. If the weather is clear, Mt. Adams to the North and Mt. Washington to the south (the second and first highest peaks in NH) will provide us some spectacular views.
All participants must be mentally and physically prepared to spend several hours above treeline on this challenging trail. Prior experience with cramp-ons is recommended, but not required. This hike will be an excellent opportunity to practice your skills with crampons and the use of an ice axe for self arrest.
