Above treeline experience, great physical fitness

Neil and Sally are leading a strenuous trip up Mount Washington (6288', highest peak in the Whites!) via the Ammonoosuc Ravine Trail and Crawford Path. There is over 3 miles above treeline and it will be very windy and cold, so be ready for some type II fun. The total distance is 8 miles round trip with nearly 4000 feet of elevation gain.

The weather forecast at the moment looks questionable (high of 8 degrees and very windy), so if it ends up being too unsafe to try for the summit of Mount Washington, we'll tag Mount Monroe instead. Note that Ammonoosuc Ravine is NOT the popular winter route up Washington because it is on the windward side of the mountain and therefore the weather is usually worse than on the Lion's Head route.

It is extra important that you have the right gear for this trip (WIND-PROOF balaclava, mittens, warm boots, goggles, etc). I'd even recommend bringing two pairs of goggles since they often freeze up!
