🤝 This week we're doing something different! Instead of running our own show, we're joining the Northeast Trail Crew (NTC) for Wednesday Night Fells — their weekly trail run that's been going every single Wednesday, rain, snow, sleet, wind, or shine, for 250+ weeks. NTC is a Boston-area club with the same idea we have: exploring local trails in good company. Great chance to meet folks outside MITOC and run the Fells with people who know them cold.

🥳 We'll be running with the Party Pace group: 4–5 miles at 11–12+ min/mi, with around 500 ft of elevation gain. NTC also fields a faster "Business Casual" group (6–7 miles at 10–11 min/mi) — we'll only join that one if everyone on our trip is comfortable with it. Otherwise it's Party Pace, no question. This will be a no-drop run: our group will stay together at a pace that's comfortable for everybody on the trip.

🕡 We meet in the Medford High School parking lot, ready to run at 6:30 pm. NTC does quick intros (if you're new you just raise your hand — no pressure to talk!) and a group photo, then splits into pace groups, so please arrive by 6:25. Expect to finish running around 7:30 pm. If you're joining the ride share, we'll leave MIT at 5:45 pm and get back around 8:15–8:30 pm.

🚲 Biking is a great option. Medford High is a 45 min / 7.5 mile from campus and it's downhill on the way home. Plenty of NTC folks bike in. Plan to leave MIT by 5:35.

🔦 Headlamps are mandatory. Sunset is around 7 pm, so we'll be finishing in real darkness under tree cover. Bring a light to protect those ankles.

🧃 Folks usually hang around the parking lot afterward to socialize, so bring a dry layer and a snack or drink if you'd like to stick around.

There are no fees for this trip.

Prerequisites

Prior trail running experience is not required, and this is a great introductory trail run! You should be in reasonable shape — as a rough guideline, you should be comfortable running about 6 miles on road at an 11:00 min/mi pace without stopping.

Trail pace runs slower than road pace, and the terrain is a mix of fire road (faster) and singletrack (slower). If you're not sure whether this is a good fit, email the leaders describing your recent running experience and we'll help you figure it out.

If you'd like to join after the signup period closes, please email the leaders so we can make sure we're set on logistics.

What to Bring

  • Headlamp (mandatory)
  • Your phone
  • Water (can be left in car)
  • What you've worn in the past for running in similar conditions
  • Optional: a dry layer and a snack/drink for hanging out afterward
