Rumney Ruckus is a 12 hour climbing event to fundraise money for the Rumney Climber’s Association and the MITOC Bunkhouse Project. Inspired by the infamous Horseshoe Hell competition, teams of two will compete to accrue as many points as possible in 12 hours by climbing all the schist your heart desires. While there is no fixed entry cost, we strongly recommend a minimum donation of $30 the Camelot bunkhouse project.

Signups

This event is open to the public. You need a MITOC Trips account (i.e. login for this website) and signed waiver to participate, but you do NOT need a paid membership for this event. You can create a MITOC Trips account here and sign the waiver there. If you think you'd use our gear rentals, stay at our cabins, join winter school trips, or use member discounts you should consider getting a membership too! Signups are first-come, first-served. We have a maximum of 60 spots (30 pairs).

Requirements

  • All participants must be self-sufficient sport climbers. That means you must be able to lead climb, lead belay, and clean anchors, as you’ll be doing these things all day! The actual day of climbing is self-organized - the climbing itself is NOT an official MITOC trip.
  • You must have the required gear - MITOC will not be providing ropes, draws, or other gear.
  • You must have a signed waiver.
  • You must have a partner. If you don't have one in mind, here is a spreadsheet folks can use to find partners. Please cross yourself off, remove yourself, etc if you are no longer looking.

Cost

Rumney Ruckus is a fundraising event. The suggested minimum donation is $30 to the Camelot bunkhouse project All fundraising proceeds should go either to the Camelot bunkhouse project or the Rumney Climber's Association (you can choose a combination of either).

Participants will receive:

  • Free camping at Camelot both Friday and Saturday night
  • Saturday breakfast and dinner
  • Snacks and drinks
  • Eligible to enter climbing scorecards to win prizes!

How to donate:

  • Submit donations directly to the Camelot bunkhouse project and the Rumney Climber's Association (through the Access Fund site).
  • Save screenshots of your receipts as we’ll be awarding prizes to participants who raise the most amount.
  • Ask friends, family, and coworkers for donations as well!

Rules and Climber's Checklist

We will bucket climbers into divisions based on signups. Let us know the highest grade you can flash 90% of the time, this will help us determine division boundaries.

Scoring and rules are still TBD and will be finalized closer to the event date.

Prizes

A massive thank you to our AWESOME sponsors - Rab, CAMP, Climber Map, Summit Bound Outfitters, Rhino Skin Solutions, and Boston Bouldering Project - for generously donating over $2,000 in prizes! Gear up for backpacks, jackets, skin care, gift cards, and tons of other epic climbing loot.

How Prize Selection Works: Draft-Style Pick

Rather than pre-assigned awards, prizes will be chosen draft-style during the awards ceremony:

  1. Fundraising Champions First: Top fundraisers get priority draft picks to select any prize from the pool!

  2. Leaderboard Order: Remaining prizes will then be chosen in order of team ranking based on total climbing points earned over the 12 hours.
