Bringing back an epic hike from 4 years ago, we plan to hike up Mt. Jefferson twice from both sides of the presidential range.
In this route, we will traverse:
- Caps Ridge Trail: Fun scrambles in open air
- Sphinx Trail: Descending a slippery brook bed with cascades
- Six Husbands Trail: Boulder caves, challenging scrambles, and steep ladders,
which are three of the Terrifying 25 trails. The Six Husbands Trail is one of the most difficult trails in the White Mountains, and the route will also involve several stream crossings and scrambling. Ideally this is not your first hike in the White Mountains.
This hike took around 12 hours in 2022 (back in parking lot at 9pm) and the last mile was with headlamps. To keep the trip shorter, we will aim to get an early start and will be hiking at a moderately fast pace.
You should have recently (last 2 months) done a hike in the mountains at least 10 miles long. If you’re unsure whether this trip is a good fit, please reach out to the leaders via email.
Route: roughly 10.2 miles, 4900 ft. elevation gain, https://caltopo.com/m/3JCM7UC
The trip is currently planned for Saturday September 12th, but weather might force us to shift to Sunday, or to reschedule completely, for safety.
