Join us for a SUPer fun stand-up paddle (SUP) on the River Charles (weather and algae dependent)
We'll have the boards out all day and will rotate through several 'sub-trips', to maximise the number of people who get to take part (this also saves a lot of inflating/ deflating time). Each sub-trip will be around 1 hour of paddling, plus around 30 minutes of handover time.
How it works
- Sign up for the trip
- We’ll allocate you to a group with a specific launch time
- Arrive 15 minutes before your group launch time
- Paddle with your group for around an hour (groups must stick together - we may get more than an hour if handover is fast)
- Return to Magazine Beach and handover to the next group
You will receive an email from us before the trip with information about your group's time and instructions about clothing etc. It is important that you read the pre-trip email in full and inform us if you can no longer attend.
Prerequisites
- Must be able to swim
- No medical reason you can’t paddle board
- Enthusiasm & good vibes
Where & when?
- Saturday, September 5
- Launch times (subject to change): 10am / 11:30am / 1pm / 2:30pm / 4pm
- Magazine Beach (walkable from MIT campus)
Kit list
See pre-trip email for more details
- Water-appropriate clothing (absolutely NOT JEANS, ideally no cotton. Swimwear is best - assume that you will get wet)
- Note: we paddle bare-foot, so expect to remove your shoes before launching the board
- Water (lots!)
- Sunscreen
- Snacks
Interested in becoming a SUP leader?
We'd love to use this as an opportunity to train new leaders. Please contact naj20@mit.edu if you're interested. You must be able to swim, and need to be competent on a paddle-board. Leader training is most likely to start at 9:30am.
