Want to ski without paying for a lift ticket and waiting in lift lines? Think the best runs aren't groomed? Join us for a backcountry downhill ski trip trip to the cog railway on Mt. Washington!

We're going to make our way about 1.5 miles up the cog railway to just below treeline if the snow is good, and ski down. If we have extra time, we might do it twice. We'll free our heels and put skins on our Alpine Touring (AT) skis to make our way up, then lock our heels in to ski down the same you would on downhill skis.

To participate on this trip, you should be comfortable skiing most black trails in the US / European red runs. The trail is about the steepness of an easy black run at a resort, but isn't groomed so the conditions could be well, anything.

MITOC has a a limited number of pairs of AT skis and boots available to rent, along with some alpine day-trekkers that convert downhill skis so having your own equipment is not necessary.
