Once again, r**n decided to crash the School of Rock party this year. Let's plan another weekend to catch up and hope for dry rocks!

This weekend is open to SoR participants and leader, as well as other MITOC climbers as long as they are self-sufficient climbers.

Food

A light breakfast will be provided on Sunday. Dinner will be provided on Saturday evening.

Plan your own lunches and water (the cabin does not have running water).

Cost

Free for SoR 2026 participants and leaders! $15 otherwise to contribute to food and cabin use

As usual, if you're an MIT student and the cost is a burden, the fee can be waived on demand.

Climbing

We're planning to climb both Saturday and Sunday.

The trip is an "open cabin", meaning there will be no formal leading this weekend. Climbers are expected to self-organize into parties, but we will facilitate the planning and make sure no one is left behind!

There will be a collective planning meeting (#chaos) Friday night and Saturday after dinner.

Where to climb?
  • The simple choice: Rumney (mostly sport) is 10 minutes from the Cabin
  • Off the beaten path: Russel Crag (brand new parking lot! Great sport climbing, soft grades that'll make you feel strong)
  • Spicy spicy: Franconia Notch and Cannon offer a bunch of trad climbing options.

Swimming

There are several options to swim after a hot day of climbing:

  • The baker river, near the Rumney Parking lot.
  • Sculptured Rocks Natural Area is a great geological formation with very fun swimming against the current.
  • Newfound lake has a great beach and good swimming

Sleeping

We'll stay at Camelot.

Folks will be able to either camp on the property, or sleep inside. Bring your own sleeping gear.
