- Have completed a hike of 4 mi / 1500 ft gain in the last 6 months
Come join us Sunday June 14 in southern New Hampshire to complete either one or two laps of Mount Monadnock, a scenic mountain that is supposedly the second-most frequently climbed mountain in the world, and located just 70 miles away from Boston!
Our planned trail is 4.2 miles long with 1,597 ft elevation gain. Across two laps, we would plan to cover a total of 8.4 miles / 3.2k ft gain.
The two-lap version of this trip would be a great fit for folks who have previous 3-season hiking experience comfortably covering at least 6 miles and 2500 ft in a day, and who are looking to increase their endurance for longer/steeper adventures down the road.
However, please let us know in the sign-up below if you are primarily interested in completing a single lap of Monadnock; we are certainly open to discussing this possibility at the pre-trip meeting as well! It is also possible we will have one car return after one lap and a second car return after two laps. Feel free to sign up for this trip now, and drop off after the pre-trip meeting if we end up not deciding to do the # laps you prefer. All participants should be comfortable with some scrambling.
We'll leave from MIT at a leisurely (by MITOC standards...) 8am on Sunday and drive up to New Hampshire together. We will share the cost of a Monadnock State Park parking pass ($16 per vehicle) as well as gas/driving costs. MIT undergraduates may apply for financial aid; reach out to the trip leaders for more details.
Mandatory pre-trip meeting will be over Zoom on Thursday June 11 at 6pm. Please let a leader know if you cannot make the meeting, or if you have any questions!

When was the hike, and what was the distance and elevation gain? OR: if you are interested in completing Monadnock 1x, what is a recent hike you completed at least 4 miles and 1500 ft gain? 3. Favorite hiking snack?
