Physical condition for a hike of this length and elevation gain.

[We were originally going to Mt. Madison, but we learned that a bridge along the planned route is out, so we're going to Mt. Adams instead.]

Join us on a hike to Mt. Adams via a challenging route, up King Ravine Trail, one of the Terrifying 25! Mt. Adams is the second highest peak in the Northeastern U.S., with 360 degree views. Along the way, we'll traverse a boulder field along the "Elevated" route, and squeeze through boulder caves where ice stays frozen all year, and then scramble up the very steep headwall of King Ravine. On the way down we'll visit "Knight's Castle" along the edge of the ravine wall, with a view down into the ravine we hiked up.

Route: 9.6 miles, 4500 feet gain. We plan to hike at a moderate pace. This is not a good hike for beginners or for anyone with a fear of heights. Map

There will be a mandatory pre-trip zoom meeting on Thursday, June 4 at 7:00pm.

We will leave Cambridge early and stop for a quick breakfast near the trailhead. If you can drive your own car or are willing to drive a rental car, please edit your lottery preferences to show this.

Expected costs: car cost $30-$50/person, plus rental costs if you need gear such as a backpack.
