Join us on Saturday to hike the very beautiful route up the Kinsmans! This is a 10.5 mi, 4k feet elevation gain hike. Winter hiking newbies are welcome, but you should have experience with similarly-difficult 3-season hiking! This is a great chance to tackle a longer hike.
We’ll start at the Mt Kinsmans trailhead off of 116 and head up the backside of Kinsman ridge toward North Kinsman, with a stop along the way at the stunning 52-with-a-view summit of Bald Peak. From there we’ll head up to North Kinsman (with views out over the whole range), and continue on to South Kinsman with its open summit, 360 degree views, and throne-like cairn. Here is the map.
This will be a hike on the longer side. Participants should be comfortable with managing layers and moving efficiently in winter conditions.
Logistics:
There is a mandatory pre-trip meeting on Thursday April 2nd at 7:30pm in person at the student center on the 5th floor. Please email us if you can't make it in person.
Weather may force us to modify, reschedule, or cancel the trip.
* We will leave Cambridge early and stop at Mad River Coffee House along the way.
* If you can drive your own car or are willing to drive a rental car, please edit your lottery preferences to show this.
Costs
Expected cost per person: $5 fee, at most $15 gear rental, $30-$50 drive. MIT undergrads can request financial aid.
