Prerequisites
Having attended MITOC's Winter Safety Lectures. Previous winter hiking experience. Fitness compatible with an 8 miles hike.

Winter School is over but Winter is still here, come hike Mt Liberty and Mt Flume with us!

Details

We will be heading up Mt Liberty via the Liberty Springs trail. Depending on timing and conditions, we may continue along to the adjacent Mt. Flume. The route to Liberty is about 7.8 miles round trip with 3,400 ft of elevation gain. Continuing on to Mt. Flume would add 2 miles and ~1,000 ft of elevation to the trip. We expect the trail to be well broken. We will take microspikes, and may bring snow shoes as well depending on trail conditions. Here's the route

Requirements

You should have previous winter hiking experience and have been on at least one hike of similar elevation and distance in the past year (in any season) or have a good cardio fitness routine.

If you don't satisfy the prereqs, but you want to join the trip anyways, please send an email to both leaders with more information about your experience and general fitness / activity.

Logistics

There will be a mandatory pretrip meeting on Thursday at 7pm in the MITOC office which will also be an opportunity for everyone to rent gear.

Costs

Please budget for:

  • $5 trip fee
  • $0-15 for rental costs
  • $20-$40 for rideshare costs

If you are an MIT student, these costs can be waived/reimbursed.
