- Strong physical fitness, ability to ski a 5ft wide trail
We will skin up and ski down the carriage road on Mt Moosilauke, and ideally summit if the conditions allow. The route is 5.2 miles each way, for a total of 10.4. This trip includes both advanced backcountry skiing and above treeline travel, and you'll need to use tight turns and speed control to ski down a trail as narrow as 5 ft (the length of your skis!) wide in places. This is a classic White Mountains ski route that has received good snow recently, so we are hoping for a great adventure.
What to expect:
- Full above tree line gear/best practices
- Will need to ski with a somewhat large pack
- Tight turns and potential obstacles (no need to be able to navigate these elegantly, but you should feel confident "survival skiing" this type of terrain)
There will be also be a mandatory in-person pre trip meeting BEFORE Thursday’s lecture.

- Notes
- Will you be renting skis and boots from MITOC? If you know what size you'd like please add it, or if not add your height.
- How many days of skiing have you done in the past two years? Any backcountry?
- Rate your comfort with skiing the equivalent of black glades at a resort (1 = not comfortable/haven't done, 2 = a little uncomfortable, 3 = somewhat comfortable, 4 = comfortable)
- Describe any experience with above treeline travel
