Welcome to the last weekend of Winter School 2026!

Join Adam and Ashutosh on Saturday January 31 for a gorgeous hike to the Hancocks. There are some nice lookouts along the way, but the beauty of the trail is amongst the trees and snow! It is peaceful.

Trip is about 10 miles with significant elevation gain of about 2500 ft. We will take the Hancock Notch and Hancock Loop trails.

This hike is most appropriate for hikers with some previous winter hiking experience (especially in B level terrain) or very strong 3-season hiking experience who are excited to learn winter hiking. Fitness should be commensurate with maintaining a moderate pace over terrain that is steep and long. Please feel free to reach out to the trip leaders with any questions/concerns about preparation for this trip.

Mandatory pre-trip meeting Thursday 1/29 @ 6 pm at MITOC gear office (Stratton student center room 461).

This trip will have a decently early leave time from Boston given the longer distance we need to cover. We will require microspikes, snowshoes, and insulated boots for this hike All of the equipment can be rented from MITOC if needed! Keep an eye out for the final list before the lecture on Thursday.

If you can drive your own car or are willing to drive a rental car, edit the “Lottery preferences” on your MITOC profile to show this.
