This trip offers an opportunity to bag two of New England’s 4000-footers: Carter Dome and Mt Hight. The summit of Mt Hight offers some of the best 360 degree views in the White Mountains, including the view of Mt Washington and the Presidentials.
Route
We will start from Nineteen Mile Brook trailhead and hike the lollypop route in counter-clockwise direction Map. This is a long hike (~10 miles, 3500+ ft of elevation gain) that might be particularly difficult due to the possibility of fresh unpacked snow on trails. Participants must have good fitness and prior winter hiking experience.
The weather forecast is looking moderately cold but can change in the next few days - we will be closely monitoring it. Because of the potential of strong winds and low temperatures, it is essential to have warm layers, particularly boots. Although full face covering is not required for this trip, it is strongly encouraged.
In case there is another snowstorm happening on Saturday, we will do a local hike instead to avoid driving in hazardous conditions.
