- Prerequisites
- Previous (below-treeline) winter hiking experience with similar or higher distance and elevation, where you felt really good. Also need to have your winter layers figured out.
We’ll be heading up Mt. Chocorua via the Champney Falls Trail. The hike is ~7 miles (11 km) with ~2200 ft (670 m) of elevation gain, with about 1 mile (1.6 km) above treeline.
Chocorua is a great introduction to above-treeline hiking. Some previous winter hiking experience required. If you’ve been on a few below-treeline winter hikes and want to experience the full excitement of above-treeline winter hiking, this trip is for you! If you’ve been on many above-treeline hikes but want to go on another one, this trip is also for you!
Important note: the forecast looks cold (around 0F at the summit). As a result we'll try to minimize breaks and keep a good pace. To sign up, you need to be confident that fitness-wise this hike will not be a challenge for you. You also need to be comfortable with your layering system below treeline.
