Join us on Sunday for a fun hike up Mt. Galehead, one of the 4000-footers in the White Mountains. The weather will be cold, but don't worry - we'll be mostly in the trees!
We will be hiking about 12 miles (including some snowy roadwalk) with 2800 ft of elevation gain, using snowshoes and microspikes.
Prerequisites: We’ll keep a moderate/fast pace (1.5 - 1.8 mph), so come prepared! Note that you will be hiking with a bigger/heavier backpack than your typical summer hike. Ideally, you’ve done similar mileage or at least 9-10 miles at this pace in the last six months and have some winter hiking experience in the past.
Logistics: We will leave Cambridge/ Boston around 5:30 am (and stop at Hooksett for a quick break). There will be a mandatory pre-trip meeting on Thursday, 9pm to discuss logistics and safety, and rent personal and as well as group safety gear.
Drivers and Lottery: If you can drive your own car or are willing to drive, please edit the lottery preferences on your profile to show this. Please mark as willing to drive/rent others only if you can offer trips both ways from Boston/Cambridge area.
Costs: Please budget for $5 trip fee, $30-50 carpooling costs, any personal gear rentals (capped at $15), and any food you buy along the way. We intend to use the MIT car cost calculator and share costs equally among participants.
