Join us for a beginner-friendly night XC skiing session at Jackson XC Resort, NH on Saturday January 17! No prior experience with XC skiing is necessary!
Logistics
Our pre-trip meeting will be Thursday at 9 pm in/just outside the MITOC office in the MIT student center. We'll discuss logistics and gear/rentals.
We will leave from MIT ~2:30 pm on Saturday for the ~3hr drive to Jackson. Night skiing hours are 6-8 pm. Depending on how we're feeling, we may venture out briefly with headlamps on the unlit (groomed) trails afterwards, but we'll definitely finish by 9 pm.
Jackson XC is very close to MITOC’s cabin in Intervale (if planning to stay there overnight or the day prior). Intervale can be described as ‘indoor camping’ (heat available but will need sleeping system). Overview is provided here, but we will discuss in more detail as well: https://mitoc.mit.edu/rentals/intervale
Costs
Participants will share car costs (gas, wear/tear). We expect car costs to be ~$30-40. If you are able to drive or rent a car, please indicate this in your lottery preferences. MITOC Winter School fees are capped at $20 ($5 Winter School hiking/XC ski fee + XC ski rentals). If you have your own skis you only need to pay the $5. There is an additional night skiing fee ($10 to White Mountain Ski Co / Jackson XC Resort), which also includes pizza at 7:15pm.
