- Physical condition for a 10-mi/3200-ft hike
Join us on a hike up Mt. Moriah, one of the NH 4000-footers! Our route will be 10 mi/3200 ft elevation gain along the Stony Brook and Carter-Moriah trails (this route). The 4000-footers of the White Mountains (guidebook) calls this route to the summit "a highly scenic approach up an attractive brook valley". If the weather cooperates (it's looking good so far!), there are great views of the Presidentials and the Wild River wilderness from the ridge.
Trail conditions
We expect to hike in microspikes and snowshoes. There is one stream crossing, but we expect that it will be manageable even if not completely snowbridged.
Logistics
- Our in-person pre-trip meeting will be 9 pm Thursday at the MIT Student Center.
- We'll depart Cambridge early Sunday morning and stop for a quick breakfast near the trailhead.
- If you can drive your own car or are willing to drive a rental car, please make sure your "Lottery preferences" show this.
Costs
As with all MITOC hiking trips, there is a $5 trip fee. We will share car costs using the MITOC car cost calculator. Expected car costs are ~$30-50; MIT students can get financial aid to cover this. Rental fees are capped at $15.
