Join us on a morning hike in the Blue Hills! The hike is 5 miles with ~1000 ft of elevation gain. We'll practice layering as we visit several of the hills as well as Houghton Pond and Eliot Tower, which has a view of the Boston skyline. We'll also get some practice using stoves while making hot chocolate and tea.
We'll meet at the Student Center at 8:30 am Sunday and drive to the Blue Hills (~25 min). We plan to return by about 1 pm.
This is a beginner-friendly trip -- we'll hike at a moderate pace.
Prerequisites
- Fitness to hike 5 miles
Logistics
Mandatory in-person pre-trip meeting: 9 pm Thursday January 8, on the 4th floor of the MIT Student Center. We'll go over logistics, answer any questions, and help people rent gear if needed.
If you can drive others, or are willing to rent a car, please edit your "Lottery preferences" to show that.
As with all MITOC hikes, there is a $5 trip fee. We will also share car costs using the car cost calculator. Note that trip fees are waived for MIT undergrads, and MIT students can get reimbursed for car costs. MIT undergrads may also receive a "starter kit" with compass, whistle, headlamp and hand warmers from MITOC.
The weather is looking warmish (40's F), coming off a couple rainy days. We'll keep an eye on the forecast and determine proper gear accordingly.
