Want to knock off one of the shortest 4000'ers while catching a beautiful sunrise and participating in a thrilling buttsled down the Waterville Valley ski trails? If so, join us on Tecumseh this weekend!
We'll start from the Waterville Valley Ski Area and go straight up the Mt. Tecumseh Trail to the top and back (link to route). The route is 4.8 miles, with ~2200ft elevation gain (this is a climb of about 915 vertical feet per mile, which is quite steep).
This trip will start early as we want to catch the sunrise and finish our buttsledding before Waterville Valley opens, so expect to start hiking around 5am and leave Boston even earlier. We will plan on bringing sleds and sledding down the groomed ski trails, so if you are not comfortable getting a bit of speed this may not be the trip for you.
Tecumseh is one of the easier New Hampshire 4k's, however the elevation gain and cold temps will make this a moderately difficult hike and a good fit for those with at least some experience with layering and temperature management.
We will need drivers for this trip! Please update your car status if you can drive others. If not, please select “not driving” or “will drive self.” You must be prepared to rent a car if you have selected “willing to rent.” (MIT provides discounted car rental to affiliates, and we will evenly split rental/gas costs). There will be a mandatory pre-trip meeting this Thursday, 1/8, at 9pm in the MITOC office where you can rent the necessary gear.
