What and Where
Beginner/Intermediate ice climbing for both those new to ice climbing and those who have ice climbed before. We will go over ice climbing basics at the start of the trip. The location will be Kinsman Notch in North Woodstock, NH. The hike is ~30 min from the road. Saturday is currently forecast to have temperatures around the upper 30s F with a chance of precipitation in the afternoon. Be aware that ice climbing involves minimum 50% standing around belaying, and conditions are wet (there will be melting water on you while you climb), so having your rain and cold-weather kit dialed is a necessity. Bring hard shells and that extra big puffer and mittens to keep you warm if you don’t climb. Please note that the mandatory pre-trip meeting will be Thursday at 5:30pm before the lecture to rent gear (ice tools, mountaineering boots, front-point crampons, helmet, harness, belay devices in addition to any other winter hiking gear) and go through the details and discuss the logistics. Feel free to email us with any questions.
When
Saturday, January 10th. Meet at the parking area at 8am.
