Join Rob, Jessica, Jason, and Ariel for a trek above the treeline on Franconia Ridge to Mt. Lafayette in two groups. One group will take the elusive northern Skookumchuck trail 5.1 miles to the summit, climbing around 3,500 feet, while the other group will take Greenleaf Trail and possibly Old Bridle Path. If we time it right, the two groups can exchange high fives and snacks on the summit! We will spend ~2.5 miles of the trek above treeline.
This challenging hike will be a great introduction to above-treeline hiking for folks with some hiking experience in good shape. We will practice pacing, layering (both below and above treeline, no exposed skin!), the finer arts of avoiding fogging your goggles, and using microspikes and crampons.
We will be aiming to have each participant bring both microspikes and crampons, with trekking poles recommended. Given the possibility of a gear shortage at the office, if you have the ability to borrow poles or microspikes, or have been considering buying them, please feel free to do so!

- What is your experience with winter hiking so far? Any above treeline?
- What is your experience with crampons? Microspikes on icy terrain?
- Do you have a car you are willing to drive (make sure to mark on lottery preferences also!)?
- Are you interested in driving up Friday night to Camelot cabin beforehand if that is an option?
