Details

We're heading to the White Mountains this coming Saturday, Dec 20th to hike two NH48: Osceola and East Osceola!

This will be a moderate to difficult trip of 7 miles and 3000 feet of elevation gain. The trail is steep and may require crampons. We are looking for participants who have some winter hiking experience and have done similarly difficult 3 season hikes.

Requirements

You must have attended MITOC's Winter Safety lectures either this past November or in one of the previous Winter School Editions.

Previous winter hiking experience is required! In addition, you should have experience hiking similar mileage and elevation gain with a moderately heavy backpack during any season.

Please budget for the following expenses: $5 trip fee, $20-50 carpooling costs, possible gear rentals and eventual food you buy along the way.

Logistics

We will carpool to the trailhead, please update your car status if you can drive others. If not, please select "not driving" or "will drive self".

Lottery will run on Wednesday afternoon and selected participants will receive an email with details about the trip afterwards.

There will be a mandatory pre-trip meeting at the MITOC Office at 6.30pm on Thursday Dec 18th.

Costs

Budget $5 for trip fees, up to $15 for gear rental costs, and $30-45 for driving expenses. If you are an MIT undergrad, financial aid is available.
