We're going to take a run up Mt Moosilauke, taking the Ravine Road and Gorge Brook Trail, and possibly hitting the South Peak - about 10 miles and 2850ft elevation round-trip. The route is approximately this (but because it's winter there's an extra mile on the road at each end): https://www.alltrails.com/trail/us/new-hampshire/moosilauke-via-gorge-brook-trail-winter-route
The last stretch and summit are above treeline with possibility for strong, cold winds. Everyone will need to have been on at least one previous Winter School hike and be very comfortable managing layers, have your packing and systems down, and be able to fully cover all skin.
Prerequisites: You will need to be a Winter School leader or have attended MITOC Winter Safety lectures within the past year, and have at least some winter hiking experience. If you have any questions or uncertainty about your preparedness, please reach out to us!
Logistics: We will have a mandatory pre-trip meeting this Thursday (5:15pm) over Zoom. You can rent any needed gear (such as microspikes, snowshoes) during Thursday or Friday office hours. We will depart Cambridge early Sunday morning.
Costs: Please budget for a $5 trip fee, $30–50 for carpooling costs, any personal gear rentals (capped at $15), and any food you purchase along the way.
