Learning to Stay Safe in Winter
Did you miss the safety lectures in January and still want to enjoy winter with MITOC? Or did you just get to MIT, and you're excited to get outdoors with the club?
Regardless of your background, if you want to enjoy winter activities (outdoors) with MITOC, you need to attend the winter safety lectures. We'll be talking
Where and when?
The lectures will happen on Wednesday February 11th on MIT campus, from 6pm to 10pm. Room TBD.
Is this mandatory?
In order to participate with MITOC during winter conditions (which is often well into spring for the higher summits), you must have attended a delivery of the winter safety lectures. The "trip" will be broken into 2 parts: lecture and then a short quiz.
You must attend the lecture and pass the quiz at the end.
Topics covered
- MITOC policies
- Clothing
- Basic gear
- Hiking
- Traction
- Gear rentals
- Weather
- And more!
TL;DR:
You need to attend winter safety lectures to do outside winter activities with MITOC. If you haven't attended the winter safety lectures this season, this is your last opportunity for the current winter season!
