a mountain which may be Mt. Isolation? idk

We will be hiking Mt. Isolation following the commonly used winter route. The route is 12 miles long, with 3100 feet of elevation and includes the Engine Hill Bushwhack and the Iso Express Bushwhack.

We will aim to be done hiking at 4:30 pm, so we will be enforcing a strict turn-around time. This means that we will have to be a wee bit speedy if we want to summit Mt. Isolation. You should be confident that you can hike at a fast-ish pace with winter gear if you join this hike.

Logistics

We will have a (required) hybrid pre-trip meeting on Thursday, November 20 at 5:45 pm in the MITOC office and on Zoom. You will be able to rent gear you need for this trip during office hours directly after the pre-trip meeting and Friday at noon.

We will be leaving from Cambridge on Saturday at 5:30 am.

Details will be sent out after sign-ups close.

The trip leaders will be attending the Interval cabin training after this hike, so they will not be returning to Cambridge. We therefore need one car/driver for participants who are returning to Cambridge after the hike.

Prerequisites

To join this hike, you must:

  • Have attended MITOC winter safety lectures
  • Have completed a hike with similar distance and elevation gain during any season
  • Have some winter experience (hiking, skiing, etc.)

Weather

Partly sunny, high near 24, blustery.

Costs

Please budget for: $5 trip fee, $30-50 carpooling costs, any personal gear rentals (capped at $15), and any food you buy along the way. We intend to use the MIT car cost calculator and share costs equally among participants.

Fine Print

We reserve the right to select participants based on previous experience. You must have attended winter safety lectures to join this trip. Email us with questions!
