Feeling blue? Need to touch grass? Well, never fear, because the Blue Hills are the perfect opportunity to wake up late AND still enjoy nature! Join us next Saturday for an afternoon of exploring the (semi) local Massachusetts beauty before the fall breezes become winter freezes!

Route

The Blue Hills Reservation boasts a variety of trails, and we will be starting with the 6 mi Forest Path, a long, rambling, woodland hike. If everyone feels comfortable, we will then proceed on the Houghton Pond trail, an easy picturesque loop around the water. Due to limited daylight hours, this hike will occur at a steady pace (around 2 mi/hr for forest loop and 1.5 mi/hr for Houghton). For more information, check out https://www.mass.gov/location-details/hiking-in-blue-hills

Logistics

We will be leaving from the MIT Student Center at 11 AM and will return (to the Student Center) around 6 PM. The Blue Hills are approximately 45 minutes away by car, so we will need one additional driver for this trip. Additionally, there will be a MANDATORY pre-trip meeting on Wednesday, November 5th at 8 PM via Zoom. If you cannot make this meeting, please note below some other times you are available to go over logistics. Also, keep in mind that you will need a suitable backpack, headlamp, plenty of water, and proper footwear/gear in order to participate in this hike.

As always, please feel free to email us (Ishelton@mit.edu) if you have any questions!
