Join us for a hike of the Twins and Galehead this Sunday! This hike is the ultimate snack attack - 13.3 miles out-and-back and over 4400' of elevation gain with a mix of salty climbs, sweet views, and a whole lotta crunch.

Route

Starting on the Gale River Trail, the path eases you in like the raisins at the bottom of the bag—chewy, steady, nothing too flashy yet. First summit: Galehead Mountain. Think of it as the plain peanut—simple, underrated, but still essential for the mix. Then comes the big bite: South Twin, the chocolate chunk of the day, meltingly good with 360° views that make your effort totally worth the calories. And just when you think you’re full, North Twin calls—because what’s better than one M&M? A second one right next to it.

The way back? That’s your pretzel—twisty, salty, and a little harder than you remember on the way up. But every step brings the satisfaction of knowing you bagged three summits in one handful. By the end, your legs might feel a little nutty and your lungs a bit raisin’d, but hey—that’s the beauty of a balanced mix.

Logistics:

  • Mandatory pre-trip meeting Thursday October 9th at 6:00pm over Zoom
  • The weather at elevation is looking cold with potential precipitation, so bringing proper rain and insulating layers will be essential
  • We will depart from Cambridge by 6 AM for an anticipated start time of 8:45 AM at the Gale River Trailhead

We will need a driver for this trip. Please update your car status for the lottery if you can drive others (including if you are willing to rent). We will be evenly splitting driving costs (rental/gas/maintenance) using MITOC's car cost calculator after the trip.

IMPORTANT: This is a long hike with a lot of elevation gain. To ensure that all participants are able to enjoy this hike, lottery does not guarantee selection for the trip, which will be at the discretion of the leaders.
