Prerequisites
Experience hiking in the Northeast (or comparable terrain elsewhere), generally equivalent to two moderate day trips up 4000 foooters back to back, and fitness sufficient to carry camping gear over this distance. Stoke to sleep in the woods.

Join us for a fall foliage backpacking trip to Flat Mountain Pond and up Sandwich Dome! This trip is geared towards people who are comfortable with two back to back days hiking moderate 4000 footers, but who may not have backpacked before. The trail is relatively moderate, but we will be carrying full overnight gear which tends to make things considerably more challenging. All backpacking specific gear can be rented from MITOC, but everyone should have comfortable hiking boots or trail runners as well as non-cotton layers to stay warm.

Itinerary Map.
* Day 1: Leave Boston around 5AM. Start at the Flat Mountain Pond Trailhead and hike to the shelter.
* Day 1 Evening: Hike out to Sandwich Dome for a sunset dinner and return back to camp by headlamp. 4.5 miles, 2000ft vert.
* Day 2: Hike back to the cars.
We may adjust the itinerary based on participant interest to add.

Logistics
We will begin coordinating personal and group gear (tents, cooking equipment, etc) via a google sheet early in the week. We ask that people fill this out promptly as it helps immensely with logistics. We will have a mandatory pre-trip meeting Thursday at 6PM in the MITOC office to go over gear, help people rent any necessary items, and go over the trip plan in more detail.

Costs
Expect to bring your own meals and snacks ($10-$30), gas costs ($30-$50 / person) and a campsite fee of $15 / person as well as any rental gear.
