The training will be held in the MITOC office (W20-461), Tuesday Aug 16th, 5-6pm (right before office hours 6-7pm: the ambitious among you will stay for office hours heh)
Please bring a laptop or tablet which we will use for practice.
Becoming a desk worker is a GREAT way to get more involved in MITOC. You get to...
Meet cool people and explain that yes they do need checks and no we can't change it and yes we also find it annoying Gain a better understanding of what gear to use and when (do the skis go up? or only down?) Answer questions and feel helpful ("sleeping bags? we have sleeping bags!") Open a safe and handle checks (oooh) Avoid the lines for renting/returning (you can do it yourself now!) Access the office whenever you want (if you have an MIT ID) Earn desk credit (aka "monopoly money") which you can spend on rentals, trip fees, gear, classes like WFA/WFR, memberships, cabin stays, and the beautiful MITOC water bottles. This training will covering rental policy and procedures, gear location in the office, difficult questions during office hours, and anything/everything else pertaining to desk shifts.
Please note you must have attended at least one MITOC trip to be eligible for desk worker training.
