Join two short hikes near Jackson, NH: one to Iron Mountain and one to Winneweta Falls.
Iron Mountain has a recently rebuilt trail and was just added to the 52-With-A-View list. In fact, our hike will take us beyond the summit to cliffs on the other side of the mountain, where there are great views and also a side path to old mines. Along the way will be a view of Mt. Washington.
Winneweta Falls is a 40-foot cascade of waterfalls. Reaching it requires crossing the Ellis River, usually reasonable only in late summer, and even then it is an adventure since it involves wading in water that may be a foot or so deep (bring water shoes or cross barefoot).
Total: 6.2 mi, 1800 ft.
We will have a quick mandatory pre-trip meeting on Thursday 7pm over Zoom to go over logistics.
We'll leave Cambridge Sunday at 9am and stop for a quick late breakfast at a bakery along the way. We'll hike at a moderate pace. There will be a very short drive between the hikes. Expected car cost per person is $30-40 (MIT undergrads can be reimbursed).
