- Lead climbing and belaying experience, self-sustained during a day outdoors
Join us in Rumney to gain confidence in your outdoor climbing and belaying skills!
This trip is for folks who are experienced lead climbing indoors but have limited or no experience outdoors, AND for folks who have lead outdoors before but feel rusty or not ready to climb outside by themselves. Thus, we will focus on climbing safety and proper belaying technique.
If you are not sure that you would want to lead a route immediately, do not worry, we will set-up top-ropes to ease you in. As this trip is not about climbing hard, we do not expect to climb harder than 5.9.
Logistics: We plan to leave the Rumney parking lot at 9:00 am and hike towards the crag (< 30 min potentially steep hike). We will spend the day at the crag and head back to the parking lot at 4 pm and aim to leave the lot around 5 pm.
There will be a mandatory pre-trip meeting on Thursday, 6 pm, in the MITOC office. We will discuss transportation, gear, and general expectations for the trip.
Don't have all the gear? Do not worry, you can rent gear from MITOC (https://mitoc.mit.edu/rentals/prices).
