Prerequisites
None!

We're excited to (finally) kick off the summer whitewater instruction program. Join us at Mystic Lake for the first of several pond sessions and learn how to whitewater kayak! Pond sessions will focus on learning paddle strokes, how to wet exit (escape the boat if you flip), and get you comfortable in the boat. If you were at a roll session last winter, we can practice some rolls!

We'll aim to meet at the pond by 6 PM. There will be limited boat transport available from campus.

What to bring

  • Clothes you are comfortable getting wet.
  • Change of clothes
  • Whitewater gear: kayak, paddle, spray skirt, PFD, helmet, (and float bags)

Gear rental will be available from MITOC for $12/day. You must be boathouse trained and have checks dropped off at the office to rent. We may run a quick boathouse training for signups, but checks must be dropped off in advance.

Summer Whitewater Instructions

This trip (or another pond session) is a prerequisite for the beginner instructional which will be (tentatively) August 17 (whole day). We will run at least one more pond session before the instructional.
