Sunset Strides: Trail Running & Pizza in the Fells

Join us for some hopefully not-too-hot miles at Middlesex Fells and stick around for food and vibes!

We’ll run about 4-7 miles, likely in a ~4mi group and a ~6-7mi group. Both routes will be no-drop runs, but we plan to run at a pace similar to 9-10 min/mi on the roads (likely 11-12 min/mi on the trails).

We’ll meet at the Medford High lot near the Mustang loop trailhead (489 Winthrop St, Medford, MA 02155), ready to run at 6:30 pm. Exact routes TBD and will be shared closer to the event!

After the run, we’ll hang out for some post-run pizza from Area Four, courtesy of MITOC!

Transportation

We’ll try to facilitate transportation to/from the Fells — most likely, enough people will have cars to get everybody to/from the Fells. You can also bike (Blue Bike station at Medford High), run, or take Uber/Lyft/public transportation. Biking is often faster than driving during rush hour! Please include your info on the Rideshare Sheet if you are interested in carpooling.

Prerequisites

This trip should have something for everyone! Trail runners of all experience levels are welcome (even if that experience level is none)! This can be a great first trail run, but you should be in good physical (i.e. cardio) shape and have some hiking experience. As a rough guideline, you should:

  • Be comfortable running 4+ miles on flat road at 9-10 min/mi (have done so in last 3 months)
  • Have done a hike with at least 1k ft elevation gain in the last 6 months
  • If you don’t satisfy the prereqs, you’re welcome to sign up anyways, but please email the leaders describing your recent running experience and fitness routine, so we can make sure this is the right trip for you!

What to bring

Make sure you bring the following:

  • Your phone
  • What you’ve worn in the past for running in similar conditions
  • Headlamp (we don’t anticipate running in dark but will carry)
  • Water (can be left in car)
  • Dry/warm layers for post-run hang (optional, can be left in car)
