Stuck in lab? Week's been unfab? Well the weekend doesn't have to be drab, let's nab Mt. Cab-ot! Mt. Cabot is the northernmost NH 4,000-footer, and The Horn is a 52WAV.
We are planning for this Sunday June 15th because the forecast looks better, but may switch to Saturday if the forecast changes.
We'll begin the loop hike at the York Pond Road Trailhead, scamper up the Bunnell Notch trail to the summit of Mt. Cabot like rabbits, blab our way down the Kilkenny Ridge Trail to The Bulge, hit The Horn, know the Unknown Pond, and return to the parking lot via the Unknown Pond Trail. Allegedly the Unknown Pond is nice for swimming, so we might take a quick dip there.
The total loop is 11.6 mi and 3,350 ft gain. Trail map link can be accessed here.
We will have a quick mandatory pretrip meeting on Thursday 6pm over Zoom to go over logistics.
We'll leave Cambridge at 5am and stop for a quick breakfast near the trailheads. We'll hike at a moderate pace.
If you can drive your own car or are willing to drive a rental car, edit the lottery preferences on your MITOC profile to show this. Note that this will be 3.5 hour drive one way. But daylight hours now are long too, so it's as good a time as any to bag this 4000-footer!
Expected trip cost per person is $40-60 to cover car costs. If you are an MIT undergrad, this cost can be reimbursed.
