This trip is canceled for lack of interest, but we may still go out running unofficially!! If youโre interested in joining please email the leaders!
๐๏ธ Join us for an advanced trail run along the Skyline trail at Blue Hills this Sunday. It'll be 50 degrees, sunny, and beautiful (some of the best views you get around here)!
๐โโ๏ธ We'll head west from Randolph Ave (Route 28) and do ~8.5 miles out-and-back on the Skyline trail, covering 2,200' of vert and summiting the Great Blue Hill ๐ฅน. This will be consistently technical terrain with a decent amount of climbing (more so than the Skyline trail at the Fells). The distance / vert / terrain are pretty similar to hiking moderate 4000 footers up in NH, so this is a great shake-out if you're interested in mountain running.
โ We'll aim to run 11-12 minute miles, roughly equivalent to ~8:30 pace on flat roads. For context, most MITOC trail runs in the Fells involve less vert per mile and fewer miles overall, but we'll keep the cardio level similar to the faster/harder Fells runs.
๐โโ๏ธ If you're an overachiever, you can optionally join for an extra 6.5 miles and 2,000' of vert once we finish the main run! Please indicate your interest when you signup below.

- Main run: https://www.gaiagps.com/public/rOlqFd9c5cOcKkYXjI6CkNgW/ [8.5mi / 2200ft]

Transportation
We'll plan to start running from the small parking area on Randolph Ave (where the Skyline trail crosses) at 9:15am. For those joining the rideshare, we'll depart MIT at 8:30am.
Weโll try to facilitate transportation to/from Blue Hills โ most likely, enough people will have cars to get everybody to/from Blue Hills. There may be a small cost (<$10 per person) if we need a rental car.
Please include your info on the Rideshare Sheet.
Note that there will be transportation back after the main run (so we don't have to wait for people doing the extra 6.5 miles)!
Prerequisites
This trip is aimed at experienced runners with some experience on trails / technical terrain. As a rough guideline, you should:
- Be comfortable running 8+ miles on flat road at a 8-9 min/mi pace (e.g., have done such a run in the last 3 months)
- Have done a hike with at least 2,000 ft of elevation gain in the last 6 months
- Have comfortably done a trail run of >5 miles & >800ft vert on technical/mixed terrain (not just fire roads) in the last year.
If you don't satisfy the prereqs, you're welcome to sign up anyways, but please email the leaders describing your recent running experience and fitness routine, so we can make sure this is the right trip for you.
