- Prerequisites
- Enthusiasm! Good physical condition. Standard winter hiking gear or ability to rent. Experience with microspikes is helpful but not required.
We'll be heading up to the White Mountains to make an attempt on the two peaks of Mount Kinsman!
This is a long but medium (below treeline) hike of 10 miles and 3,500 ft of gain and loss. No section of this trail is incredibly difficult, but the distance makes it strenuous. Some winter hiking experience is recommended.
We'll be hiking in the Franconia Ridge region of the White Mountains. We'll start at Lafayette Campground and hike 1.5 mile to the Lonesome Lake Hut. The hut provides a great place to make gear changes if necessary. Then we'll continue 2.5 miles farther to the summit of North Kinsman. If we're feeling good and time allows, we'll continue another mile to the summit of South Kinsman. Then we'll turn around and head back to the hut for Pie before returning to the Trailhead.
Note: The trip is summit OR pie, pie may or may not be available depending on summit success.
