Join us on a traverse of the Osceolas!
The trip combines several fun winter activities in one: cross-country skiing and hiking, using snowshoes and crampons!
Route: 12miles/3400 feet vertical split into 4.25miles/975ft backcountry skiing, 5miles/2425ft hiking, and 2.75miles/0ft cross-country skiing on groomed trails.
Weather: Prepare for temperatures down to -6F at the summit, 10F at the base with windchill.
If you’re not into XC skiing but still eager to hike on Sunday, please contact the leaders — we’re open to adjusting the route and possibly making it a hiking-only trip based on your preferences.
Requirements: Previous winter hiking experience is required. You should also have previous hiking experience of >10mi and >3k ft! Since we'll be using cross country skis, you should be a comfortable cross country or downhill skier. We may be using microspikes and potentially snowshoes and crampons, depending on the conditions. Previous experience with these traction methods is not required.
Cost: Please budget for: $5 trip fee, up to $15 for rentals, and $20-50 carpooling costs.
Logistics: Plan to leave Cambridge early Sunday morning at 5:15 am. There will be a mandatory pre-trip meeting in front of the MITOC office at 5:45pm on Thursday. We may have to adjust the number of participants based on available drivers. Signing up does not immediately guarantee a place on this trip. Thank you for your understanding and please email us with any questions
