We will be heading to Mt. Tecumseh on Monday (17 February) for a moderate hike (6 miles, 2350 ft.) in snowshoes. We will also be hiking from the summit to the South Peak which is the top of the ski area. The weather might be very cold with -2 F at the summit with windchills down to -36 F, although we will be mostly sheltered by the trees during the hike. We will use the cold weather and strong winds as an opportunity to practice using balaclava and goggles, as if we were going above treeline! We will depart Cambridge at a comfortable time at 8am and stop for breakfast along the way!
There will be a mandatory pre-trip meeting on Saturday (15 February) at 5pm at the student center, and it will be possible to rent gear then, or at office hours on Thursday and Friday.
Expected cost per person: $5 fee, $15 gear rental, $25-$40 drive. If you can drive your own car or are willing to drive a rental car, please edit the lottery preferences on your MITOC profile to show this.
